The Low Pay Commission (LPC) has been asked by the Government to make
recommendations for changes to the National Minimum Wage regime in the
following areas:
· The 16-17 year old rate
· The apprenticeship exemption and the older workers’ development rate
· The accommodation offset
· Other benefits in kind and salary sacrifice arrangements
The LPC is therefore conducting a consultation exercise to inform its
decision-making.
These are important issues for GMB particularly for young workers, apprentices
and workers in the leisure industries. Feedback from the Low Pay Commission
tells us that case study evidence and examples about what is happening in
workplaces carry considerable weight with Commissioners.
In order to help gather comprehensive evidence for a GMB response, Ida Clemo
and I have prepared the attached questionnaire. We would be grateful if this
could be widely circulated among activists and officers, including relevant
committees and young members’ groups.
As you will see from the questionnaire we are asking for responses by
Friday
26th August
in order to meet the Low Pay Commission’s September deadline for
evidence. Please get in touch with any thoughts or feedback that you might
have.
