The results of our recent survey showed that lots of you aren't quite sure how
to get
more involved with the GMB, or what it would involve.
REP
A rep is a local point of contact at the workplace and one of the most
important jobs in the Union. As a rep you are best placed to help colleagues
and fellow members with problems because you work in the same situation and can
understand the difficulties people face. Reps get involved in providing
support, advice and representation to members who may have been unfairly
treated, or just need to know where they stand. You will receive training from
the Union and paid time off to undertake your duties.
SO, if you're looking for variety and the opportunity to learn about something
new this could be right up your street.
YOUNG MEMBERS OFFICER
The GMB is divided up into separate branches. You will already be part of one
of these. Each of these branches has a number of roles operating within it,
including the Y.M.O. The job is quite flexible but based around encouraging
activism amongst young members and advancing youth affairs within the branch.
You could do this by running a campaign in your workplace to make sure all
young employees are aware of their basic rights at work and what a union is
for. Or perhaps, get involved in promoting the work we do at summer festivals
and helping campaign for different charitable organisations.
NYMAC REP
The national young members section has a couple of delegates from each region.
We are currently looking for a new delegate to take up this position.
If you are interested in this, or finding out more about any of the roles
detailed above please get in touch.
