What are we?
The GMB is the 3rd largest union in the country with over 700,000 members . We are a general union that represents workers in any industry, however large or small, whether you work in the tourist industry or a hospital, in a restaurant or a call centre, we can support you. Unions are there to help get things sorted no matter what your job. Our top priority is the well-being, health and safety of our members. If you've got a problem at work and need to speak to someone give us a ring.

We can offer protection, advice and support for all young people whether you're in your first job or struggling to make ends meet as a working student. In many cases young workers are exploited or treated badly, unaware of their rights, whether this be bullying management styles, or time toilet breaks, don't let it happen to you! Make sure you get the respect you deserve and look after yourself at work.

The GMB has an active Young member's section. The group deals with issues and concerns of those aged 16 to 27. Nationally we have upwards of 60,000 young members who we represent through activities like campaigning to end the inbuilt discrimination in the minimum wage. We hold regional get-togethers, send groups to work at festivals like Glastonbury and Reading and much more.

As well as dealing with work related issues, it also runs a social side and aims to help develop skills of our Young members. One practical area, which is being developed, is a Young Workers Pledge . The pledge aims to raise awareness and respect for Young workers.

If you would like to get involved in any of the Young Members activities, please give me a ring.
